********************NeW LeAks: ALICE IN CHAINS (A Looking In View) *****************************

alice in chains a looking in view

Wow. I know I have been ghost for awhile but sometimes life takes over. Anyway listening to the new Alice In Chains and it is way better then I expected. Obviously most fans probably agree they should have changed their name but that is not the point here. The point is this song and it not sucking! Check it out I am now excited for this new record...

""A Looking in View" is a song by Alice in Chains, to be featured on their 2009 forthcoming studio album Black Gives Way to Blue. It was released as the first single from the album on June 30, 2009 through the iTunes music store and Amazon.com. It is the band's first release with William DuVall, who is the replacement for the band's late original singer Layne Staley. The music video will be premiered on June 30, 2009 on their official website."

-----[ CRAZY Soccer Ball Controller ]-----

Crazyness...here are some details:

"Institut FATIMA uses a Fussball as (des-)controller for triggering drumsamples. The camera detects the symbols on the ball, kicks numbers into the sequencer, the sequencer matches goals. The goal is always music. Software used is reactivision and ableton live. Do it at home."

"In addition to TUIO, reacTIVision also has an alternative MIDI mode, where you can map the appearance of fiducial symbols to note ON and OFF events, as well as their X,Y and rotation angle to a control channel value. Quite a few people have been using this for the creation of cheap web-cam based MIDI controllers.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=reactivision+midi

Using TUIO, you have more alternatives though, you can currently use Max/MSP, Pure Data, Quartz Composer, Processing, Java, C++, C# and so on to receive the object & finger tracking data. Here are a few cool musical projects, that have been built using reacTIVision:

---[ Streetlab Remixes Pet Shop Boys ]---

pet shop boys west end girls streetlab mix

Got this in my inbox last week but just gave it a listen now. This is the third track off the upcoming bootleg remix LP streetlab will be dropping later this summer. I was really into the Sgt. Peppers remix they did and the Hall and Oates one was pretty wicked as well. This time they remix The Pet Shop Boys who have put out a new record this year and seem to be all over the blog world lately. Check out Streetlab's remix of West End Girls featuring Ninly below.....

***************** New Leaks: Kasabian [West Rider Pauper Lunatic Asylum] ***************************************

kasabian

Just spotted the new Kasabian album online and I am about to give it a listen. There is no high quality rip yet but I was a little anxious to check it so I gave it a go. I was a huge fan of the first record and was a little disappointed with the second one. So far this one sounds decent. I read that the whole album is suppose to flow from track to track. Here is some more info from wiki....

"For this album the band recruited American hip hop and electronica producer Dan The Automator, who is best known for his work on the first Gorillaz album. Guitarist Sergio Pizzorno told BBC 6 Music; "It's a real journey and it also will fill a dance floor. It's about people joining in and I think that's what we're about. There's a couple of songs that kind of went New York [Rolling] Stones and there's definitely one song that sounds like Daft Punk and The Clash together, which is quite interesting. We've always been really funky and we've always had a real groove, and I think he helped with pulling things out and being more rhythmic rather than throwing loads of instruments at it. I think it's definitely got more rhythm.">

"Kasabian started work on their third album in late 2007. The band have said that their third album will contain an early Pink Floyd-influenced song that "sounds like Syd Barrett."[8] During the making of their third album, they recruited live replacement Jay Mehler as a permanent member of Kasabian.

When asked about the direction of the album, frontman Tom Meighan explained, “It all joins together which is beautiful, there’s no gaps in it, it’s very psychedelic, there’s very much elements of the first but it’s a more distant sounding Kasabian than we have been with the last two albums.” He also spoke of the title, “It’s a loony title mate, but we have a couple of titles and we have picked one that has lots of words, it’s a tongue twister!”[9]. The band also headlined the Main Stage at Creamfields in Daresbury, England, debuting "Fire", a contender for the new record. This was followed by a set at the Hydro Connect festival in Inverary, Scotland."

---[ NYC EveNtz: Tiga + Holy F#ck DJ Set ]---

Couple of things going on this weekend. Actually there is a bunch of stuff but for now we got Tiga tonight at webster hall and also a DJ set by Holy F%ck. Here are the details....

"Tiga is well known for his remixes (Thomas Andersson's 'Washing Up', LCD Soundsystem's 'Tribulations' ) and his covers (Nelly's 'Hot In Herre' and Coey Hart's 'Sunglasses at Night')... but he is no slacker when it comes to his original material - his last album won the Juno Award for Dance Album of The Year.

This guy has worked with many big names, including Soulwax (who have done loads of production work for him), Jake Shears from The Scissor Sisters (who has supplied guest vocals for him), plus he produces some great music with Zombie Nation under the pseudonym ZZT.

Tiga has just released his new album 'Ciao!' - watch the video for the single "Shoes" here.

There will be a special guest support DJ set - but we can't tell you who it is for contractual reasons.

:::[Daft Punk - Remix After All Download]:::

I was just about to hurt my ratio for this until some nice commenter hooked up a link to the whole package. You can find all of the tracks in one zip Compliments of The Lemur Blog.

DOWNLOAD DAFT PUNK - REMIX AFTER ALL

Here are the details:

What started as a vague idea planted as a seed into the minds of a few individuals has now sprouted into a full-blown project ignoring geographical borders and cultural differences through an internet-based cooperation between a group of influential music blogs who set their minds on creating a remix album for Daft Punk's infamous third album Human After All (2005). The idea was born from the sense that the official but strictly limited remix compilation Human After All: Remixes (2006), which was only available for Japanese consumers, did not completely satisfy fans of the band and remix aficionados. Therefore we are now proud to present: Remix After All.

10 popular and acknowledged music blogs got together to create this unofficial remix album for public distribution on May 20. Each and every blog has chosen one track from the album and has then begun a search for the producer they think would fit best to remix their song. Remix After All does not disregard any of the songs from Human After All, making it an unusually cohesive and consistent remix album to its form. This project relies heavily on the love and respect for the original creation but also for the bloggers' fingertip sense to find who they believe is the soulmate to each song. The bloggers, in their turn, rely on their confidence that their remixer has the skill, passion and inventiveness to make a remix that truly creates something new and interesting out of the original.

Tracklist:
1. Human After All (The Disco Villains Remix)
2. The Prime Time Of Your Life (Tits & Clits Remix)
3. Robot Rock (Immuzikation Remix)
4. Steam Machine (The Company Kang Remix)

---[ Pacemaker - Ultimate Music Machine ]---

"Pacemaker’s two independent audio channels let you play two tracks side by side. Beatmatching is easily done by the click of a button, and with a full set of professional audio effects and a crossfader you now have unlimited creative influence over your music.
The features and the performance of Pacemaker makes it the perfect mixer for any situation – for practicing or preparing your DJing, or for performing live with full control in your headphones.
Pacemaker even lets you save your mixes and spread them across the digitized universe. Any mix can be saved on your Pacemaker. When transferring your mixes to your computer, you can edit and refine your mixes as you like with the free desktop application, Pacemaker Editor."

Not sure what to say about this one. At first it looks a little gimmicky but I could see there being some appeal. Especially since everyone is about portability and expediting. I would like to mess around with one but for me I would probably go the Ableton Live route if I were to DJ. Anyway I can see people buying this especially with most DJ's going digital and striving to be as portable as possible. However the iphone and all the recent DJ driven apps might give this a hard market to succeed in.

---[ Ableton Live + VDMX + MSA Remote ]---

Equals I need to buy an iphone! If I had more money I would have one already. Mostly for the geeky music reasons too. This just makes me want one even more.....

MSA Remote + VDMX + Ableton Live from Memo Akten on Vimeo.

MSA Remote is a remote control application for iPhone & iPod Touch that sends OSC messages over the wifi network. This allows you to control any OSC supporting applications such as Max/MSP/Jitter, PureData, Reaktor, VDMX, vvvv, Resolume, Quartz Composer etc.

In this video, OSCulator is routing the OSC (& TUIO) messages coming from MSA Remote to midi and forwarding to Ableton Live and VDMX simultaneously. Nothing is done in post, the same signal is controlling both audio and video.

At the beginning of the video you can see the polyphonic velocity sensitive keys in action (yes, the harder you hit the keys, the louder the sound - works equally well when the iphone is laid on a table), and later on the faders, triggers and multitouch tuio-pad.

You can see MSA Remote controlling a Java fluid simulation at vimeo.com/3975324

There is a slight lag in the video feed so apologies for that.

Should be in the app store soon.

P.S. you can download the original video at the bottom if you wanna read the effects in VDMX or Live.
